John J. Boice

John Joseph Boice, Sr., 83, of Broad Brook, passed away peacefully on Friday, (September 13, 2013), surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hudson, NY on January 29, 1930, he was the son of the late George and Mary (McAree) Boice and the stepson of Julia (DeVos) Boice.

John served his country as a PFC, in the US Army, stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. John moved from Cohoes, NY to Hartford in 1953 where he married his wife Veronica (Bruno) Boice. The couple then moved to East Windsor. John was a long time employee of Sunshine Laundry in Hartford. He enjoyed photography and always had his camera by his side, waiting to capture the perfect shot. He also enjoyed genealogy, tracing the family tree as far back as 1730.

John was an avid fan of the UCONN Women's Basketball team. He lived in Park Hill for over 20 years. John's quick wit and sense of humor will be missed my many. His life will be remembered through his photographs.

In addition to his parents and step mother, John was predeceased by his wife Veronica, his brother George Boice and sister, Margaret Condon. John is survived by his children, John and his wife Mary and their son, John of Wethersfied; David of New Port Richey, FL, Ann Norris and her husband, John of Ellington, Mary Deters and her friend, Peter Skoglund, and her children Emily and Luke, of Enfield; his nephews, George (Mary), Charles, Michael (Suzie) Boice; his niece Kathleen (Bob) Elliott; his sister, Dotty Woolsey and many nieces and nephews. John also leaves his companion, Pauline Legassie, her daughter Roxanne Bagwell, her daughter Donna and her husband George and their children Eric Hargraves and Jennifer and Mark VanGasbeck and their children, Christin, Nolan and Natalie all of whom will miss their adopted Grandpa.

A special thanks to John's nephew, Charlie, for all care and laughs he provided to Dad this past winter. Our family expresses deep appreciation to the staff at Meadow Brook of Granby and Masonicare for the compassion and care given to our father.

Funeral services and burial are private. The Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home has care of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to either, East Windsor Ambulance Assoc., P.O. Box 188 or Alzheimer's Association CT Chapter 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100 Rocky Hill, CT 06067 {alz.org}.
