 Revolutionary War

Edward PENDERGAST
b. ca. 1765 in Winchester, Virginia, d. ca. 1851 in Ripley Co., Indiana
Edward Pendergast was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and enlisted in 1779. His company was commanded by Major Wilson and Captain Samuel Postlethwaite of the Pennsylvania Line. he resided in Carlisle, Cumberland County Pennsylvania when he enlisted.
(Edward Pendergast is the direct ancestor of Dorothy Jean Pendergast, who married John Nathan Boyce.)

Johannes George KERN
Johannes George Kern was a private soldier in the Continental Line from the County of Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. Johannes George Kern and John Kern the 2nd with their families migrated (soon after 1815) from Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania to Highland Co., Ohio. Johannes George Kern died 1838 in Highland Co., Ohio. He was drowned while attempting to cross a creek in Highland Co., Ohio near Bainbridge, Ohio.

 War of 1812

John BOICE
b. 5 June 1794 in Columbia County, NY, d. 4 July 1876 in Cairo, Greene County, NY.
John Boice began his service in the town of Hudson in September of 1814, under the command of Thomas Coopers NY. Militia, but Capt. Cooper took ill and dropped out of the war. John then fell into the ranks of Captain John Martin's NY Militia, commanded by Colonel Van Dalfsen of the Albany Agency, 12th regiment, where he served for about three months and was honorably discharged in December of that year, at Brooklyn Heights, NY. John Boice finished his military service at the rank of corporal.

*Richard BOICE (Union)
b. 1839 in Taghkanic, Columbia County, NY., Company E. 159th N.Y. Vol. Infantry.
Joined September 27, 1862 at Claverack, N.Y. Killed at Irish Bend LA, April 14, 1863.
Recruited at Hudson NY., by Lieut.-Col. Molineaux.

*Leonard BOICE (Union)
b. 1840 in Taghkanic, Columbia County, NY., Company E. 159th N.Y. Vol. Infantry.
Joined September 27, 1862 at Claverack, N.Y. Died of disease, 11 February 1863.
Served with the 159th NY Infantry. Recruited at Hudson NY., by Lieut.-Col. Molineaux.

*William BOICE (Union) (Soldier at Gettysburg)
b. 1844 in Taghkanic, Columbia County, NY., d. 1922. Inlisted at Claverack, N.Y. February 6, 1864, Company I, 6th Regiment NY Calvary. William's commander at Gettysburg was Major William Elliott Beardsley. Of the regiment's 306 troopers at the battle of Gettysburg, they suffered one killed, three wounded, and eight missing. The troopers carried Sharps single-shot carbines, and .44 caliber Colt revolvers.

*Above: The above three Boice's were brothers, the son's of Eli Boice and Eva Maria Blass. Richard and Leonard died just 2 months apart during service.

William J. BOICE (Union)
b. 14 January 1847 in Richford, Tioga County, NY., d. 15 March 1917. Enlisted on January 4, 1864, at Marathon, NY., age 18. On January 22, 1864, he mustered into Co. B, 109th NYSV. On June 3, 1865, he transferred into Co. A, 51st NYSV. He was mustered out on July 25, 1865, at Alexandria, VA.

Milton V. PENDERGAST (Union)
b. 23 February 1841 in Ripley Co., Indiana, d. 3 January 1925 in Hot Springs, Fall River County, SD. Enlisted in Company B, 68th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 19 August 1862 Promoted to Full Lieutenant 2nd Class on 01 June. Mustered out on 20 June 1865 in Nashville, TN.

Abraham PRUETT (Union)
b. September 12, 1833 in Indiana?, d. October 29, 1884 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Military service: September 16, 1864, Discharged from 8th regiment of Wisconsin infantry/private
(Abraham PRUETT is the indirect paternal ancestor of Dorothy Jean Pendergast, who married John Nathan Boyce.)

Israel P. HAFF (Union)
b. 1814, d. 27 January 1882.
Fought with the 12th Kansas Infantry, Company A. Rank at induction, 3rd Sergeant. Rank at discharge, Private.

Martin F. BECHTEL (Union)
b. 7 October 1840 in Ohio, d. 25 May 1917
Served in the Civil War as a Pvt. Army Co. D, 15th Regiment, Ohio infantry.

John Leroy BOYCE (United States Navy)
b. 18 July 1894 in Friday Harbor, WA., d. ca. 1954 in Seattle, WA.
Entered the service at Seattle Washington, August 3, 1917, as Carpenter, 1st Class, and was assigned to the U.S.S. Alabama. He was then transferred from U.S.S. Alabama to U.S.S. Besocki. Transferred to U.S.S. Mt. Vernon; promoted from petty officer to Admiral Cleaves' staff, Hoboken NY; and was overseas 27 months. Discharged the 21st of October 1920.

Tate James MATHERLY. (United States Army)
b. 12 January 1971
Served in the U.S. Army from 1989 until 1992 receiving an Honorary discharge because of an injury he received while he was training troops for Dessert Storm. He was on the "Fast Track" program to become an Officer when he was hurt in the line of duty.
